Juneau Job Openings
Juneau is the state capital (population; 32,000) with miles of road carved along the coast. A limited public bus system connects the main commerce centers, but does not extend far outside the main city limits. Public transportation ends 1.5 miles from our facility. It is recommended to bring a vehicle to Juneau or consider purchasing a used vehicle (usually ample availability!). Car-pooling and bike-commuting among crew members is very common.
Vessel Crew:

Captain
Requires a USCG master's license (100 ton minimum) and an FCC marine radio operator's permit. Prior experience in the marine tourism industry and particularly on passenger vessels is desirable. Preference is given to applicants with knowledge of diesel mechanics, waterjet propulsion, and electrical systems. Must be able to build team and maintain crew moral to provide a quality experience for our guests.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct tours as directed according to descriptions in sales literature and procedures in policy manual. Supervise all aspects of tour delivery and tour quality.
- Manage and direct crew members in the execution of all their job responsibilities; build a productive and efficient team; maintain high morale over course of season.
- Supervise and assist in daily maintenance: cleaning, sewage and fuel pumping, restocking. Coordinate and assist with routine maintenance; painting, changing oil, etc.
- Communicate with Port Engineer to identify problems and expedite repairs; assist with repairs, as needed.
- Supervise passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.
- Plan and execute emergency drills, equipment checks and safety meetings in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and AMT policy.
- Maintain all navigational equipment in good working order; keep logs and ship/company documents, as directed. Provide daily operations report to office.
Qualifications/Experience
- Experience on passenger vessels and/or experience operating vessels in Southeast Alaska required. Required minimum 100-ton license.
- Mechanical aptitude, engine room experience preferred. Diesel mechanics or electrical/electronics background helpful.
- Must have ability to build effective team and skills required to resolve crew conflicts in order to provide quality experience for customers.
- Must have ability to speak on P.A. system, and to provide commentary.

Deckhand
Requires basic seamanship skills. Mechanical aptitude and some experience with diesel engines preferred. Assist Captain to monitor vessel systems and troubleshoot problems. Interact with passengers and perform customer service duties. Provide for passenger safety while underway and maintain impeccably clean vessel at all times. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with guests.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Check all engine/jet fluids upon arriving on vessel each morning, bring all equipment online, log all entries and report any problems to Captain.
- Assist with passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.
- Complete routine engine room checks underway, making minor mechanical repairs and adjustments as necessary, and assisting crew members to ensure that passengers receive optimum tour quality and premium customer service.
- Assist Captain in wheelhouse with navigating and/or wildlife sighting as directed.
- Maintain vessel appearance, with regards to cleanliness and safety, in engine and jet rooms, in voids and on decks. Assist other crew with cabin, galley and heads.
- Under direction of Captain, complete all routine vessel maintenance on a daily basis. This will include, but not be limited to: cleaning, sanitation pumping, restocking and refueling.
- Assist Captain to perform required safety checks of all essential equipment on a weekly basis. Maintain current and accurate logs.
- Work with Port Engineer to complete all mandatory vessel maintenance on a monthly basis, including but not limited to oil/filter changes, zinc/belt replacement, etc.
- Identify problems, inform Port Engineer and assist in performing needed repairs.
- Perform other duties under supervision of Captain.

Guest Service
Interact with passengers by answering questions and helping with specific requests. Operate galley and gift shop which includes food preparation, snack service, retail presentations and the sale of local retail products. Maintain impeccably clean vessel at all times. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with guests.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Present a professional and friendly attitude while on duty.
- Direct and assist passenger movement on and about the vessel.
- Participate in passenger safety orientation and maintain safe conditions underway.

Orca Point Lodge Crew:

Orca Point Lodge Manager
Under the supervision of the Division Manager with direct oversight by Operations Manager or Retail Manager, this position is responsible for the entire scope of operations at our private lodge on Colt Island. This day lodge is a tour venue that serves a salmon buffet to guests arriving aboard our whale-watch tour vessels and a seafood buffet to guests arriving via our overnight cruise vessels. This position requires the ability to work independently while facilitating the overall plan dictated by the Allen Family. Duties will be performed under company guidelines and according to established procedures and protocols.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Oversee training, scheduling and supervision of entire staff including kitchen/bar and gift shop crew; leads for site, grounds and touch tank.
- Monitor quality and efficiency of tour operation and review crew performance on weekly basis; report audits to corporate.
- Conduct daily pre-service and post service meetings with crew; maintain morale and execute company programs of progressive discipline and problem resolution.
- Document all personnel issues and route copies to corporate human resource team in Sitka.
- Advise and monitor boat crews when arrive with guests to delegate specific duties while on site at lodge.
- Order and manage all provisions and inventory for lodge; arrange for daily transport along with lodge crew from Auke Bay facility to Colt Island location by vessel.
- Conduct regular inventory of all storage areas both on/off site to insure adequate supplies of perishable and non-perishable foods; keep areas clean and orderly.
- Oversee maintenance of all on site equipment including but not limited to propane refrigerators, stoves, grills etc; along with docks and grounds.
- Keep all permits and certificates current.
- Work closely with Retail Manager to organize space and merchandise all locally made products in lodge gift shop.
- Maintain a constructive relationship with Administrative Coordinator regarding point of sale electronic devices, retail sales and daily reconciliations.
- Interact professionally with entire shore management team, vessel crew members, and various vendors.
- Prioritize, identify and coordinate projects to be completed during the winter months. Prepare work orders and provide updates/reports to corporate.
- Provide assistance to crew to enhance guest experience including performing excellent service recovery when necessary.
- Seek and initiate methods to improve Allen Marine’s profitability at this venue.

All crew members pull inventory and supplies every morning in Auke Bay and are transported by vessel to the island and return each evening. The crew member will sell retail and alcohol items to guest and work with a team to provide a quality, locally-caught meal and always maintain an impeccably clean lodge for a five-star tour experience for each guest. Employees must be 21 years of age to sell / serve alcohol. This is a shore-based position.

This position is full-time seasonal. Under the supervision of the Office Manager and at the direction of the Administrative Coordinator the assistant provides administrative support to the sales, retail, and operation managers in a fast-paced Alaska tour operation. This position is shore-based.
Qualifications & Experience
- Availability to work entire season without interruption and be available to attend the 40-hour pre-season training program is preferred.
- Previous office or customer service experience a must; and previous experience in the visitor industry and/or a related industry preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate accurate and efficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Bookkeeping and money counting experience is a plus.
- Job requires a strong multi-tasker with highly developed communication & organizational skills.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude in a high stress & fast paced work environment.
- Must have the ability to work independently & in a team-oriented environment.

Assistant Supply Coordinator
This is a seasonal full-time position. Reporting to the Supply Coordinator. This position aids the Supply coordinator in day-to-day operations.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Supply Coordinator to ensure tours have needed supplies.
- Maintain clean and orderly on site and remote storage areas.
- Act in a professional and pleasant manner in executing responsibilities as a liaison with boat crews.
- Follow procedures to efficiently distribute products to various vessels in fleet.
- Oversee the cleaning of all vessel laundry (cloths, towels, window diapers, and rags.
- Notify Supply Coordinator of low stock items.

Catering Manager
Our catering team is responsible for the preparation, execution, and presentation of our Evening Catered Tours. Managing a team of 6-8 knowledgeable individuals one is accountable for individual performance as well as team performance. The Catering Crew Lead must effectively lead their catering team to the successful completion of each evening tour in a given day. The Catering Lead falls directly under the supervision of the Food and Beverage Director. One must train and schedule their team according to the tour schedule and the needs of the operation. This position requires assisting in all stations as necessary to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Duties/Responsibilities

Catering Crew Member
Catering team prepares fresh Alaskan sourced seafood, Alaskan exotic game meats, and locally grown vegetables to create a unique dining experience for our guests. Food is prepped; plated, and placed on rolling racks for quick distribution aboard our vessels. Banquet table is filled with delicious and attractive Alaskan foods, flowers and accents; the team will exit, and the dinner tour begins. Crew will retrieve all materials when tour finishes and prepare for the next day’s tours. Designated members are given the training and time to design our very own floral arrangements. Crew work as a team and each crew member has a recipe and workstation to prepare food. All crew must share in the cleaning of the facility. Techniques are not difficult to learn; time goes by quickly and you will enjoy a friendly and efficient work environment.

Diesel Mechanic (Year Round)
Mechanic performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment. The objective is to effectively diagnose engine problems in a timely manner and coordinate repairs with the company engineering staff. The Mechanic will be directly responsible for performing repairs and engine overhauls in accordance with technical manuals and company policies. This is a non-supervisory role but will have the assistance of shoreside engineers and vessel oilers. Reports to Port Engineer.

- Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine diesel engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
- Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine engine equipment.
- Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments.
- Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves.

Oversee and coordinate via radio and phones the movement of vessels, motorcoaches, other vehicles and passengers to and from Allen Marine's private dock facility at Auke Bay. - Manage tour and retail inventory may include purchasing, receiving, stocking, and distributing all vessel supplies. Products to include cleaning and paper supplies; food and beverage inventory; and retail items.
- Work closely with purchasing office in Sitka, to price and procure all products.
- Balance, reconcile and report all daily retail receipts from each vessel and/or crew.
- Track use of all tour supplies, keep accurate records, and prepare periodic reports to generate a final report at the end of the season.
- Coordinate and manage the cleaning of all vessel laundry (cloth towels, window diapers and rags).
- Develop procedural systems for efficient distribution of all products to various vessels in fleet.

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and Supply Coordinator. This position is responsible for receiving shipments, distributing products to appropriate vessels, organizing, and storming supply items and driving company shuttles. This is a shore-side position.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Safely and responsibly drive company vehicles to and from local locations.
- Must arrive to work on time every day as scheduled, this is crucial for our shuttle schedule.
- Answer questions while driving guests regarding Juneau, Southeast Alaska, and Allen Marine Tours.
- Maintain procedural systems in place for the distribution of product and supplies to vessel and crew.
