Requires a USCG master's license (50 ton minimum) and an FCC marine radio operator's permit. Prior experience in the marine tourism industry and particularly on passenger vessels is desirable. Preference is given to applicants with knowledge of diesel mechanics, waterjet propulsion, and electrical systems. Must be able to build team and maintain crew morale to provide a quality experience for our guests.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prosecute voyages as directed in tour descriptions and policy manual. Supervise all aspects of tour delivery, and quality control.
- Supervise and assist in routine maintenance: cleaning, sanitation and fuel pumping, restocking, painting, lubrication, and minor mechanical repairs.
- Communicate with Port Engineer to identify problems and needed repairs, and occasionally assist in performing them.
- Supervise passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.
- Plan and execute emergency drills & safety meetings in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations, and company policy.
- Maintain logs and ship/company documents, as directed. Provide daily operations report to office.

Deckhand
Requires basic seamanship skills. Mechanical aptitude and some experience with diesel engines preferred. Assist Captain to monitor vessel systems and troubleshoot problems. Interact with passengers

Naturalist
Requires public speaking ability and experience using PA systems. Develop tour narrative and conduct natural history presentations for groups of up to 150 passengers. Assist passengers boarding & disembarking; provide safety and emergency orientation; and work as a team member to distribute snacks and always maintain impeccably clean vessel. Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop tour narrative plan with duty captain for each voyage, factoring time constraints, weather, recent sightings, tide, season, etc.
- Direct passengers boarding and disembarking, and during an emergency. Conduct safety and emergency orientation.
- Work with Guest Services crew members to provide commentary and personal interaction/service with up to 150 passengers on tour.

Fin Island Lodge Service Crew
Fin Island Lodge is a tour venue located on a beautiful remote island in Southeast Alaska. We serve a buffet of locally caught salmon, King Crab and Prime Rib to guests arriving aboard our whale-watching tour vessels and occasional chartered events. All crew members pull inventory and supplies every morning and are transported by vessel to and from the island daily. Assistant Port Engineer
Under the direction of Port Engineer, this position is responsible for performing regular scheduled maintenance duties on all day tour vessels including assisting Captains with oil changes; for assisting Port Engineer with mechanical repairs; and for keeping all parts, filters, and equipment areas on dock stocked, organized and neat.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform engine oil changes on a fleet of four tour vessels.

Project Manager (Year Round)
We are seeking an energetic, experienced individual to manage projects for the Sitka, Alaska Shipyard facility, owned and operated by Allen Marine, Inc. This position requires planning, organizing, management of tasks, budgeting, controlling costs and other factors that may arise. This position will work with existing management from multiple divisions to ensure smooth and timely execution of projects.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Coordination of individuals and teams from cross disciplines to achieve project deliverables and/or project completion.
- Manage individual vessel and facility maintenance and repair records, including vessel movements between ports, budgets, parts purchasing, tool inventory and timelines for work to be completed.
- Anticipate and plan for long- and short-term improvements and maintenance.
- Facilitate and manage progress meetings and ensure detailed documentation of subjects covered.
- Generate work orders and manage labor and inventory in Pacsoft.
- Assist with the coordination and/or facilitate outside customer requested services.

Shipyard Safety Officer (Year Round)
The Shipyard Safety Officer will be responsible for all safety functions regarding the Allen Marine shipyard including developing, implementing, and managing health and safety policies and procedures in the workplace. This is a year round position with excellent benefits, including employer paid health premiums.
The Shipyard Safety Officer facilitates programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skills training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, use of personal protective equipment, and proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Develops a systematic process to collect data and analyze the cause of accidents and generates the required reports. - Maintain database of all shipyard employee safety training/tests
- Conduct daily “walk around” inspections to ensure employees are following rules and to identify any facility safety violations
- Conduct annual facility safety inspections at all company owned properties
- Conduct monthly meetings for all shipyard employees
- Update and inventory all hazardous materials in the shipyard and make sure all safety data sheets are up to date in binders as well as electronically
- Receive and process all incident reports for shore-side employees
- Ensure all reports are filled out correctly
- Send all incident reports, return to works and LS 202s or state OSHA forms to Alaska National Rep for processing
Experience & Training:
- OSHA General Industry Course or Equivalent
- Shipyard Competent Person Course
- Level 2 Fire Extinguisher Certification
- Understanding of OSHA Regulations
- Proficiency in Excel and Word
- Public Speaking – Presentations/Training

Tour Representative
Direct & assist guests while dispatching Allen Marine tour vessels. Company liason to ship staff and assist with sales & logistics. Collect tickets and conduct end-of-day settlements. Assist with periodic reports & distribution of marketing materials. Present a professional and friendly attitude at all times and be able to answer an infinite variety of questions. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; walk up to 3 miles per day; be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and have excellent math skills. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with strangers. This is a shore-based position.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Present a professional and friendly attitude at all times while answering a variety of questions regarding Allen Marine Tours, Sitka, and SE Alaska.
- Direct and assist passenger movement during boarding and disembarking of tour vessels.
- Collect tickets/vouchers and conduct end-of-day settlements.
- Help dispatch and coordinate tour vessels, motorcoaches, and company vehicles in a professional and courteous manner.
- Act as company liaison to shore excursion staff, assisting with sales and logistics, including special needs guests.
- Help maintain dock security and visitor safety, and monitor communication systems.
- Assist with distribution of promotional tour materials.
- Data entry for various reports and ongoing surveys.
- Other duties as directed by Sales & Service Manager including but not limited to routine site/vessel maintenance, supply restocking and relief passenger service.
Qualifications/Experience
- Prefer experience in tourism/visitor industry.
- Must be able to make change, keep records, and maintain a professional, friendly, courteous attitude toward customers.
- Public speaking experience is helpful. Must be able to effectively communicate to large groups of people in a professional manner and work well in stressful situations.
- Must be able to follow direction and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk up to 3 miles per day.
- Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.
- Must be drug free (pre-employment and random drug testing is Coast Guard required).
- Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, professional, and most important, reliable.
- Must be able to work as a team with other employees.
- Computer and cell phone proficiency helpful.
- All crew members required to purchase and wear uniform. Jackets provided.
Pay
DOE. Limited Benefits. This is a seasonal full time position from May to October. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work through the end of the season without interruption. An end of season bonus will be paid to employees who complete their contract in good standing.
