About Us
POWERED BY PASSION. ROOTED IN ALASKA.
Allen Marine Tours is a family-and Alaska Native-owned company that has been offering wildlife and sighting tours in Southeast Alaska for over 50 years.
Founded in 1970 by Bob and Betty Allen in Sitka, the cmpany is now proudly owned and operated by their grandson, Jamey Cagle.
We operate custom-built vessels from Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Tracy Arm Fjord Wildneress Area, & Hubbard Glacier. Each tour explores the scenic Inside Passage, showcasing whales, glaciers, and rainforest coastlines - while sharing the rich history and cultures of the region.
CUSTOM-BUILT VESSELS
SMOOTH SAILING, ALASKA STYLE
Our fleet of vessels is custom-built in our own Sitka shipyard, reflecting decades of unmatched experience in Alaska marine design. Most vessels are high-performance, waterjet-powered catamarans, prized for their speed, smooth ride, and exceptional maneuverability in Southeast Alaska’s rugged waters.
Vessel features include:
- Spacious and comfortable passenger accommodations
- Wrap-around windows for excellent wildlife viewing
- Expansive open-air observation decks
- Marine heads for guest convenience
- Onboard galley gift shop offering beer, wine, souvenirs, and more

Our People
At Allen Marine Tours, our people are the backbone of everything we do. From the skilled craftsmen in our Sitka shipyard who built and maintain our fleet, to the dedicated shoreside teams who coordinate and support every detail, to the knowledgeable crew you meet onboard – each plays an intricate role.
Together, our people bring decades of expertise, passion, and care to every journey, creating authentic experiences that connect you with the heart of Alaska.
Independent Tours
Many of our captains have come “through the ranks” at Allen Marine Tours, progressing through passenger service representative, naturalist and deckhand positions before earning their Captain’s License. Our captains are exceptionally well-trained and knowledgeable about our Southeast Alaska environment; several have been with Allen Marine Tours for 15 to 20 years.
Our Crew
We fondly refer to our crew as our “professional marine mammal enthusiasts” – during the winter months, many of them follow marine mammals to other parts of the world. Don’t be surprised if you find one of our naturalists working during our off-season in Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Antarctic, or wherever else marine mammals are known to gather when they’re not in northern waters.
